Plywood Thickness Chart: Millimeters to Inches, with Sheet Weights

Palati birch plywood is made to metric thicknesses. U.S. buyers usually spec in inches, so here's how each metric panel compares, along with the figures you need to plan a load.
| Metric | Nearest U.S. nominal | Actual (inches) | Sheets per m³ (4′ × 8′) | Approx. weight per 4′ × 8′ sheet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6.5 mm | 1/4″ | 0.256″ | ≈ 51.7 | ≈ 30 lb / 13.5 kg |
| 9 mm | 3/8″ | 0.354″ | ≈ 37.3 | ≈ 41 lb / 18.8 kg |
| 10 mm | 13/32″ | 0.394″ | ≈ 33.6 | ≈ 46 lb / 20.8 kg |
| 12 mm | 1/2″ | 0.472″ | ≈ 28.0 | ≈ 55 lb / 25.0 kg |
| 15 mm | 5/8″ | 0.591″ | ≈ 22.4 | ≈ 69 lb / 31.3 kg |
| 18 mm | 3/4″ | 0.709″ | ≈ 18.7 | ≈ 83 lb / 37.5 kg |
| 21 mm | 13/16″ | 0.827″ | ≈ 16.0 | ≈ 96 lb / 43.8 kg |
| 24 mm | 15/16″ | 0.945″ | ≈ 14.0 | ≈ 110 lb / 50.0 kg |
| 27 mm | 1-1/16″ | 1.063″ | ≈ 12.4 | ≈ 124 lb / 56.3 kg |
| 30 mm | 1-3/16″ | 1.181″ | ≈ 11.2 | ≈ 138 lb / 62.5 kg |
Approximate values for a 4′ × 8′ (2440 × 1220 mm, 32 sq ft) sheet at a nominal density of about 700 kg/m³ (≈ 43.7 lb/ft³). Actual weight varies with thickness tolerance and moisture content. The 2500 × 1250 mm sheet (98.4″ × 49.2″) is 33.6 sq ft — about 5% heavier.
Nominal vs. actual thickness
U.S. panels are sold by nominal size, and the actual thickness is often a little less — a “3/4-inch” domestic panel may measure 23/32″. A metric 18 mm panel measures 0.709″, so check your joinery, dadoes and hardware against the actual figure, not the nominal one.
Planning a load
Use the sheets-per-cubic-meter column to convert a container volume into sheet counts, and the weight column to stay within truck limits. Standard bundles run 44 sheets at 9 mm, 33 at 12 mm and 22 at 18 mm. U.S. highway limits typically cap a 40′ container at about 42,000–44,000 lb of cargo, so we plan every load around your port and inland route.
